Tagua is the hard seed of a South American palm tree, commonly known as "vegetable ivory". People call it vegetable ivory because it looks and feels just like animal ivory from elephants. Artisans carve the dried seeds into small statues and detailed art. Workers only gather the seed pods after they fall naturally to the ground.
